Season windows:

July: Lush greenery and mild rains, with a slightly warmer feel.

August: Peak bloom season, temperatures moderate with more frequent rain showers.

September: Flowers begin to fade, and the weather starts cooling as the trekking season nears its end.

The Lore of the Locals: 

Believed to be guarded by the celestial spirits, the locals kept it a secret from the society so that they keep this away from falling prey into the hands of modernisation. 

The local flora there are believed to have healing powers and the valley itself acts as transmitter of positive energy that rejuvenates trekkers.

The enchanting waters of river pushpawati believed to be a celestial maiden (apsaras) enriches this land and plays a major role in its flourishment.

Day wise itinerary:

Day 1 : Drive from Dehradun to Govind ghat (300kms).

Highlights: Beautiful long drive along the ganga and alaknanda rivers passing through Devprayag , Rudraprayag and Josimath.

Day 2: Govindghat to Ghangaria (3,050 meters / 10,006 feet)

Trek Distance: 11 km.

Time Taken: 5–6 hours.

Terrain: Well-maintained gradual ascent with a mix of paved and natural paths alongside the river.

Highlights:Cross the Bhundar Valley.Witness cascading waterfalls, lush greenery, and the confluence of rivers.

Day 3: Ghangaria to Valley of Flowers (3,658 meters / 12,000 feet) and back

Trek Distance: 4 km one way (8 km round trip).

Time Taken: 6–7 hours (including exploration).

Terrain: Easy to moderate ascent with well-marked trails inside the valley.

Highlights:A burst of colors with over 500 species of flowers , including Himalayan Balsam and Brahmakamal.Views of the Pushpawati River flowing through the valley.Rare sightings of fauna like the Himalayan monal and musk deer.

Day 4: Ghangaria to Hemkund Sahib (4,329 meters / 14,200 feet) and back

Trek Distance: 6 km one way (12 km round trip).

Time Taken: 7–8 hours.

Terrain: Steep ascent with zigzag trails, stone-paved paths, and occasional patches of snow (depending on the season).

Highlights:Visit Hemkund Sahib, a Sikh Gurudwara.The stunning Hemkund Lake surrounded by seven snow-claded peaks. Warm langar (free meal) at the Gurudwara.

Day 5: Ghangaria to Govindghat (1,828 meters / 5,997 feet)

Trek Distance: 11 km.

Time Taken: 4–5 hours.

Terrain: Descend through the same scenic route via Bhundar Valley.

Highlights:Enjoy the downhill walk and revisit the beauty of waterfalls and lush forest trails.

Day 6: Departure from Govindghat

Travel Distance: 300 km to Rishikesh (or your onward destination).

Highlights: Cherish memories of the trek amidst scenic views on the drive back.

Travel Tips:

  • Permits: Required to enter the Valley of Flowers National Park, which can be obtained at the entry gate.
