Whether you want to sit quietly in meditation, experience the thrill of river rafting, watch the sunrise from a Himalayan temple, explore waterfalls, taste local food, or witness the divine atmosphere of the evening Ganga Aarti, Rishikesh offers an experience for every kind of traveller.

With Thin Air Expedition, this 4-day journey is designed to take you beyond the usual tourist attractions. From the ancient meditation caves of Vashistha Gufa and the sacred confluence at Devprayag to mountain sunrise, waterfalls, adventure, and the evening Ganga Aarti at Parmarth Niketan, this journey brings together the many faces of Rishikesh.

Day 1 – Arrival, Meditation & The Sacred Confluence

Your Rishikesh journey begins with a pickup from Dehradun Airport, Railway Station, or ISBT. From there, we drive towards Rishikesh and transfer you to your hotel.

After check-in and some time to settle down, begin your first day with a peaceful visit to Vashistha Gufa, a historic cave associated with Sage Vashistha.

Vashistha Gufa – A Place for Meditation

Located beside the Ganga and surrounded by forests, Vashistha Gufa is known for its deep spiritual atmosphere and association with meditation.

The quiet surroundings make it an ideal place to pause, disconnect from the outside world, and spend some peaceful time in meditation or reflection.

Highlights:

  • Ancient meditation cave
  • Peaceful Himalayan surroundings
  • Located beside the Ganga
  • Ideal for meditation and introspection

Devprayag – Where Rivers Become the Ganga

Continue towards Devprayag, one of the most significant Panch Prayag in Uttarakhand.

Here, the Bhagirathi and Alaknanda rivers meet, and from their sacred confluence, the river is known as the Ganga.

The sight of two rivers coming together against the backdrop of the mountains is both spectacular and deeply spiritual.

Highlights:

  • Sacred confluence of Alaknanda and Bhagirathi
  • Beginning of the Ganga by traditional understanding
  • Dramatic Himalayan landscape
  • Spiritual and cultural significance

After exploring Devprayag, drive back towards Rishikesh in the evening and relax at your hotel.

Day 2 – River Rafting, Bridges & Local Flavours

After breakfast, get ready for an adventurous day.

River Rafting on the Ganga

Rishikesh is one of India's most popular destinations for river rafting, and the Ganga offers an exciting experience as it flows through the Himalayan foothills.

Feel the rush of the rapids, enjoy the surrounding mountain scenery, and experience Rishikesh from a completely different perspective.

Highlights:

  • Adventure on the Ganga
  • Exciting river rapids
  • Himalayan scenery
  • Memorable outdoor experience

Rafting is subject to weather, river conditions, local regulations, and operational availability.

Ram Jhula & Lakshman Jhula Area

By evening, explore the iconic suspension-bridge areas of Rishikesh.

Ram Jhula is an important landmark connecting the eastern and western sides of the Ganga and is surrounded by ashrams, temples, cafés, shops, and spiritual centres.

The Lakshman Jhula area is another iconic part of Rishikesh, steeped in local legends and surrounded by the lively character of the city's spiritual neighbourhoods.

Take a leisurely walk, explore the local market, and experience the energy of Rishikesh as the day comes to an end.

Taste Local Food

Day 3 – Mountain Sunrise, Waterfall Trek & Ganga Aarti

Day 3 begins early as we drive towards Kunjapuri Temple, located high in the Himalayan foothills.

Kunjapuri Temple – Sunrise Above the Mountains

Kunjapuri Temple is one of the most beautiful viewpoints around Rishikesh. Located at an elevation of approximately 1,650 metres, the temple offers expansive views of the surrounding Himalayan ranges and valleys.

The highlight is witnessing the sunrise from the mountain top, when the changing colours of the sky illuminate the distant peaks and valleys.

The early morning journey is worth it for the peaceful atmosphere and spectacular views.

  • Beautiful Himalayan sunrise
  • Mountain and valley panoramas
  • Sacred hilltop temple
  • Peaceful early-morning experience

Trek Back Through the Waterfall Route

After spending time at Kunjapuri, begin the trek back through a scenic route towards the waterfalls.

After the trek, drive back to Rishikesh and take some time to relax.

As lamps are offered to the sacred river and devotional chants fill the air, the atmosphere becomes deeply peaceful and moving.

The ThinAirExpedition Spirit of Trekking

We're always ready for adventure

Trekking comes with uncertainty. Weather, terrain, and setbacks are part of the journey. We embrace them with resilience and openness—each challenge makes us stronger and more appreciative of nature's beauty.

We embrace low-noise trekking

We blend into nature, not the other way around. We avoid shouting, loud music, and noisy games. In silence, we hear birdsong, streams, and the wind—inviting peace, reflection, and a deeper connection with nature.

We protect the environment

We protect the environment by minimising waste, reusing resources, and picking up litter. We carry eco-bags, segregate waste, and inspire others to preserve trails. Sustainable trekking ensures these mountains remain beautiful for future generations.

We are self-sufficient

We carry our load as much as possible, manage our gear, and stay prepared for all situations. Self-sufficiency builds confidence, independence, and respect for fellow trekkers, support staff, and the trail itself.

We support each other

Trekking is not a solo act. We wait for each other, share burdens, and uplift teammates. By putting the group first, we build strong bonds and help everyone complete the trek joyfully.

We are fit and prepared

We train well before our treks. This helps us walk longer, handle emergencies, and contribute to the team. Fitness ensures we are never a burden and always ready to help when needed.
