Kang Yatse 2 Peak Expedition Overview

The Kang Yatse 2 Trek is an adventurous journey that cuts right through the center of Ladakh. This trek takes you up along the beautiful Markha Valley. The climb to the top of Kang Yatse 2 at 20,570 feet is not for the people with low fitness and weak heart. It is a tough one, and some previous experience in trekking would certainly be a boon. Along a stretch of about 80 kilometers, you will find alpine meadows and huge massive snowy peaks as well.

Yes, Kang Yatse 2 Peak is not as well-known as its more popular neighbor, Stok Kangri, but the 10 day journey to this place is just more exciting. This place falls within the Hemis National Park, which is a refuge for some of the Himalayas’ most elusive fauna. There, you may spot snow leopards, argali sheep, and blue deer, also. Additionally, this hike leads you through isolated Ladakhi villages where you will experience the vibrancy of the local culture, visit ancient monasteries, and even catch a glimpse of village life.

The trip in to the trek will take you through some unforgettable scenery. En route, you will pass the Gurudwara Pathar Sahib, and Magnetic Hills, where the optical illusion is that vehicles seem to run uphill. The Trekking Experience

  • Leh

Your travels begin in the town of Leh, which beautifully combines cultural, historical, and spiritual experiences. Leh is a home to many old monasteries, palaces, and temples within its borders surrounded by beautiful mountains. Upon your arrival, be sure to leave some time for your body to acclimatize to the altitude.

The trek will take you through the beautiful Hemis National Park. It is a wildlife paradise filled with fabulous wildlife. There, you may see the elusive snow leopard, mountain goats, red foxes, and bharal. The climb to Kang Yatse II is not overly technical and just a cakewalk; however, it is a challenge. You will have a chance to walk with the help of ropes, crampons and harnesses before your finally reach to the summit. And the most challenging aspect will be waking up in the middle of the night and trekking for hours in the cool to reach the top. But once you are at the summit, it is worth it to see the magnificent views.

  • Kongmaru La

After reaching the peak of Kang Yatse II, you can expect to traverse Kongmaru La (it is a high pass with eye catchy panoramic views). The walk to the pass is a bit challenging, but if you are standing at the summit and witnessing the magnificent views across the Ladakh ranges is worth it. Trust me, the sight of prayer flags, fluttering in the wind in colors all around you provides spiritual experience for an already breathtaking view.

The ThinAirExpedition Spirit of Trekking

We're always ready for adventure

Trekking comes with uncertainty. Weather, terrain, and setbacks are part of the journey. We embrace them with resilience and openness—each challenge makes us stronger and more appreciative of nature's beauty.

We embrace low-noise trekking

We blend into nature, not the other way around. We avoid shouting, loud music, and noisy games. In silence, we hear birdsong, streams, and the wind—inviting peace, reflection, and a deeper connection with nature.

We protect the environment

We protect the environment by minimising waste, reusing resources, and picking up litter. We carry eco-bags, segregate waste, and inspire others to preserve trails. Sustainable trekking ensures these mountains remain beautiful for future generations.

We are self-sufficient

We carry our load as much as possible, manage our gear, and stay prepared for all situations. Self-sufficiency builds confidence, independence, and respect for fellow trekkers, support staff, and the trail itself.

We support each other

Trekking is not a solo act. We wait for each other, share burdens, and uplift teammates. By putting the group first, we build strong bonds and help everyone complete the trek joyfully.

We are fit and prepared

We train well before our treks. This helps us walk longer, handle emergencies, and contribute to the team. Fitness ensures we are never a burden and always ready to help when needed.
