History of Tosamaidan Trek

Imagine Kashmir and think of the Kashmir Pandits. Kashmir is a land that spirals thousands of years back marked by divinity, and which was earlier referred to as “Tapobhumi”. Named after the great sage Kashyap, Tapobhumi was a land brimming with goodness and beauty that overflowed with positivity and was calm. One of the many it received was from the Mughals that, upon landing in Kashmir, found Tosamaidan and decided it was the best place to set camp thanks to the stupendous basking fields and plains. Tosamaidan, a place filled with beauty and nature, was named “Tu Shah Maidan” which means King of Meadows.

Alongside, Kashmir’s beautiful meadows like Tosamaidan also faced the tragic aftermath of the India and Pakistan wars. With the constant fear of terrorism, conflict and violence, the tourism sector came to an abrupt stop, and violence was all the citizens of Kashmir had to look forward to. Though strong violence was the norm in Kashmir, the Indian government and military have worked towards securer regions. Tosamaidan is today secure and safe for travellers from all over the world to once again witness Kashmir’s beauty and serenity.

Best Time to Visit Tosamaidan Trek

Taking the Tosamaidan trek is an engaging task between the months of July and September. These months offer the clearest skies, the mildest temperatures, and paths that are the easiest to navigate. Not to mention the Tosamaidan meadows, which are in their full glory, and the entire region is breathtaking. During winters, heavy snowfall during winter not only makes trekking a more difficult physical activity but also poses risk of falling, so trekking in these months should be avoided.
